What is a luxury portable toilet? ...Back

Luxury portable toilets are like large caravans. They are much taller and squarer than caravans to give plenty of headroom and accommodate the extra plumbing and electrical equipment they carry. Most have two doors on the outside to separate ladies and gents compartments. When sited they have steps leading up to each door.

Many types of luxury mobile toilet are self contained carrying their own water tanks and requiring only an electrical supply to operate them.

The difference between a luxury portable toilet and a basic one is in the standard and quality of the fittings. Classical Conveniences supply mobile toilets of a similar standard to that you would expect to find in a five star hotel.

Why should I hire a luxury portable toilet? ...Back

You have probably spent many hours making sure your event is absolutely perfect. Why spoil it with poor toilets? It is likely that almost all your guests will use them during your event. Standard toilet units are used for building sites and music festivals and to save money many are hastily cleaned on site before being taken to the next job. Few basic companies offer on site assistance during weekends and their contract staff are not normally trained to cater to small private events.

Classical Conveniences specialise in luxury portable toilets and our staff are trained to give you the personal service you would expect during the run up to your event and on site.

We will never deliver a mobile toilet to you straight from another site it will always go back to our depot so that we can make sure it arrives at your site in pristine condition. Make the loos a talking point of your event for the right reasons not the wrong ones.

Do I need to supply water? ...Back

No. All our mobile toilets have a large freshwater tank to supply water for hand washing and the toilets use a recycling system.

Will it need to be connected to a mains drain? ...Back

No. Our mobile toilets use a recycling system and store all waste products in a tank for disposal on its return to our premises.

Does it need an electrical supply? ...Back

Yes. We require a standard 13 amp household socket or a 16 amp blue socket as supplied by event electricians or marquee companies. Our mobile toilets draw approximately 11 amps when in use so it cannot share an electrical outlet with any other appliance. Our units are fused and RCD protected however it is the hirers responsibility to make sure the socket they supply is correctly wired and fused. We supply 25 metres of electrical cable as standard with our units and will be happy to supply more on request up to a maximum of 75 metres.

Could the waste tank overflow? ...Back

Unlikely. Our mobile toilets are built with a substantial safety margin and we will not supply a smaller unit than we think you will need.

What is included in the price? ...Back

Everything you need for your event including the following consumables:

  • Toilet tissue. (Each cubicle holds the equivalent of four toilet rolls, more than enough for most events.)
  • Paper Hand towels
  • Terry Hand Towels
  • Cosmetic tissues
  • Molton Brown Fine Liquid Soap

We will install and test the mobile toilet and there is no charge for time spent on site unless it is excessive. There are no hidden cleaning or restocking charges the only additional charge is for the cost of the delivery

Will I need to supply anything else? ...Back

Everything you need is supplied with the mobile toilet. Other things you may wish to consider are exterior lighting, exterior flooring and walkway covering up to the unit especially if the unit is a long way from your guests.

You may also want to add items to the interior of the unit such as fresh flowers. Please do not place candles or any naked flames in the units as they are a severe fire risk. Also please do not fix anything to the interior or exterior of the units with glue, nails, tacks or adhesive tape as this will damage the mobile toilet and this kind of damage is often extremely difficult to repair.

Can I put any extras in the mobile toilet? ...Back

You are welcome to put fresh flowers or consumables such as perfume in our mobile toilets but please make sure they have been removed before the unit is collected. Please do not place candles or any naked flames in the units as they are a severe fire risk. Also please do not fix anything to the interior or exterior of the units with glue, nails, tacks or adhesive tape as this will damage the mobile toilet and this kind of damage is often extremely difficult to repair.

How do I know which size mobile toilet I will need? ...Back

We will recommend the minimum requirement to cater for your event based on the number of guests the duration and the type of event. This will ensure the unit will not run out of water or consumables however it will not guarantee there will be no queuing. This is especially a problem at events such as weddings. To prevent this you may wish to go for a larger mobile toilet than we recommend.

How is it delivered? ...Back

All our mobile toilets are trailers and are delivered by one of our fleet of Land Rovers.

When will it be delivered? ...Back

We usually deliver up to two days prior to the event and collect up to two days after. We will be happy to make other arrangements at your request depending on the availability of our Land Rovers however we advise against a delivery on the day of the event for your peace of mind.

What happens if it goes wrong? ...Back

It is extremely rare for our mobile toilets to break down as we go to great lengths to ensure their reliability. However for your peace of mind we have an emergency phone line which will be available throughout the duration of your event. A Classical Conveniences technician will be sent out to you if we are unable to remedy the problem over the phone. You are not charged for this service however we will make a charge if our technician has been called out without due cause.

How much access do you need? ...Back

Firstly you need to make sure that the height and width of the access to your event site is suitable for the unit you have ordered this must include any width or height restrictions on any roads leading up to the site. Please refer to our brochure or 'Our Range' for dimensions. The mobile toilets have square bodies so any trees or guttering on buildings that overhang the access may cause an obstruction.

A Land Rover plus unit can be up to 35 feet long which means our drivers have to make wide turns. If the access to your site is a turning off an extremely narrow road or there are obstructions opposite such as parked cars or lampposts it may not be possible to make a wide enough turn to gain access. This may also be the case if there are any tight corners or narrow gateways once we are on site.

If you are in any doubt a Classical Conveniences technician will be happy to visit your event site to check its suitability.

How much space do I need? ...Back

Once on site we need enough room to manoeuvre the trailer using the Land Rover. Our Wren and Swift portable toilets can be manoeuvred by hand on flat surfaces however gravel or soft grass may make this difficult. Osprey and Kestrel units are too heavy to be moved by hand and must be put into place with the vehicle. We are however able to connect to the back of the mobile toilet if it needs to be placed with the A frame close to a wall for instance.

If you are in any doubt a Classical Conveniences technician will be happy to visit your event site to check its suitability.

Will it go on grass? ...Back

In most cases the mobile toilet can be placed on grass provided it is well drained and relatively flat however this is often weather dependent. If you are concerned that the ground is becoming soft due to heavy rain then you must contact us as we will not attempt to install a unit if we think it may get stranded due to bad ground conditions.

Due to the weight of the units, particularly the larger ones, we may cause some minimal damage to lawns or gardens. If we are required to make tight turns or the positioning of the mobile toilet is difficult leading to lots of manoeuvring then the trailer may cause severe damage to turf although we will make every effort to minimise this.

How flat should the site be? ...Back

We can install our mobile toilets on sloping ground if required however for the unit to be working properly it must be set up completely level. This leads to problems as the first step up to the unit will be excessively high up if the ground slopes away below one or both of the doors. This may be of particular problem if you have elderly guests. If you have no other option but for us to site a unit on a slope we recommend it is placed with the doors facing up the slope. If the ground is uneven this may also cause problems. If you are in any doubt a Classical Conveniences technician will be happy to visit the event site to check its suitability.

Where is the best place to site the loos? ...Back

All sites are different. Our drivers will be happy to assess the site on arrival and recommend a position. Our mobile toilets are not noisy and they do not smell so they can be placed as close as you like to where your guests will be. There is no legal requirement for distance from catering areas as long as there is adequate separation for example a screen, marquee wall or simply a clear gap where no food is stored or carried. Ground conditions and lighting of the access to the unit should be taken into consideration when deciding its position. You should also take into consideration the possibility of bad weather during your event if the unit is placed a long distance from your guests.

Can I have the mobile toilet in a marquee?? ...Back

Yes. We regularly put mobile toilets inside a marquee. You will need to check with your marquee company as all marquees are different. We will be happy to talk to them for you if they need any information. Most marquees need to be built around the unit and as the hirer it is your responsibility to make sure we can install the unit when we deliver it and that we are able to remove it when we come to collect it.

Do you supply screening? ...Back

No. You can contact a local marquee company if you need screening. Please inform us if the unit is to be screened in. As the hirer it is your responsibility to make sure we can install the unit when we deliver it and that we are able to remove it when we come to collect it.

Will it smell? ...Back

No. We use a biodegradable chemical which does not have the strong chemical smell that other portable toilets have. The waste tank is a sealed unit to prevent any smells escaping and automatic air fresheners keep the interiors smelling fragrant..

Is the unit insured? ...Back

Classical Conveniences is insured for public and products liability however as the hirer you are responsible for any loss from or damage to the mobile toilet during the hire period. You may find that your household policy will cover the mobile toilet or if you have taken out an event policy this may also cover it.

Can I move the mobile toilet during the hire period? ...Back

No. You are not insured to move the mobile toilet once it has been installed. Also the unit may not work if it is not reinstalled correctly. If you need the unit moved please contact us and if possible we will send a driver out to you. A charge will be made for this service.

How secure is the unit? ...Back

We will supply you with a key on request so that you can lock the unit.

Can I hire a mobile toilet during the winter? ...Back

Yes. All our units are heated however special precautions need to be taken to avoid the unit from freezing up as this will cause severe damage to the unit and cause it to breakdown.

A constant electrical supply must be available from the time of delivery to the time of collection. On our Kestrel and Osprey portable toilets a second supply will be required to run the heating system.

Ideally the unit should be tented in to help protect the unit and for the comfort of your guests.
If the portable toilet is to be installed on grass and you are concerned that the ground is becoming soft due to heavy rain then you must contact us as we will not attempt to install a unit if we think it may get stranded due to bad ground conditions. Click to enquire about a Christmas booking.

Can I use the mobile toilet for more than one day? ...Back

Only if the total number of guests over the multiple days does not exceed the maximum we have recommended for the size of mobile toilet you are having. If it does then you can book a 'service and empty'. Our staff will come to the site, clean and restock the mobile toilet and supervise the removal of waste by one of our recommended tanker companies between each of your events. There is a charge for this service.

If you use the mobile toilet for other events without informing us you run the risk of it running out of water or consumables or even overflowing and you will not be able to use our emergency helpline.

Can you supply the mobile toilet as all Ladies or all Gents? ...Back

Yes. Our signs are reversible to make the mobile toilet either all ladies or all gents. They can also be removed to make them unisex. On our Kestrel and Osprey units we supply a shelf and large mirror to convert the urinals into a vanity area into which we place flowers and tissues. To save valuable space our mobile toilets do not have a walk through door between the compartments. If you specifically require a 'walk through' mobile toilet we will be able to supply one from another of our Classical Group companies.
